“Eating rocks is good for your health.”

As Google’s AI overviews rollout, it’s important to make sure your content is optimized and your law firm website has a great SEO strategy in place to help your content be selected for results. Learn more about EEAT and how Google ranks content.

Or at least that’s what Google AI-generated answers told users when Google rolled out its AI Overviews feature some months back.

Users posted various photos online of nonsensical overviews, and it made the headlines, but not for the reasons Google might have hoped. Not quite the triumphant launch that they had aimed for.

So, What are Google’s AI Overviews?

They’re supposed to be quick summaries that give the best answer to your question, created by Google’s AI. They appear at the top of search results, providing a quick synopsis answer to search queries. AI Overviews basically extracts information from authoritative sources and directly links to these websites.

Is it bad to appear in AI Overviews?

No! You should want to appear in these AI Overviews as often as possible because they’re placed so highly in the search results—they’re like a super #1 ranking. Although the initial launch had some glitches, most of the newsworthy examples of AI Overviews going haywire were the result of misinformation on a Reddit forum that the AI model didn’t recognize as satire. In the longer term, getting in the AI overview is a great thing because it also indicates that Google deems your content an authority on a subject.

How are we optimizing your content and your website for accurate AI Overviews?

The Google algorithms review, select and rank content based on quality and relevance. At LegalRev, our job is to ensure your website aligns with their best practices, and that the information on your site is accurate, relevant and well maintained, to help maximize your visibility.

What does Google care about?

Google ranks information based on Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (EEAT).

Our job is to align your website with Google’s EEAT standards by:

Creating High-Quality Content: We tailor your website content (practice area pages and blogs) to answer the most common user queries, making sure your content is comprehensive, accurate, and concise.
Optimizing Visual Content: We optimize images and videos, making each visual element a strong contender to be selected for visibility.
Structuring Data: We optimize metadata and tags, and use schema markup effectively, to help Google’s AI understand and display your content prominently.
Optimizing UX (User Experience): We make sure that the site provides a good experience, optimizing your site’s speed, accessibility, and stability—key metrics that Google’s AI looks for.

While we can’t completely control how Google’s AI will select information, by doing all the ‘right’ things, we ensure that your clients will have a good website experience, and you are more likely to be recognized by Google’s AI as meeting their EEAT expectations.
