Combat Holiday Stress Through Nonprofit Donations: It’s Time to Give!

December 14, 2016

36421517 - happy volunteer family separating donations stuffs on a sunny day With so much going on this time of year, it’s easy to become swept up in the hustle and stress of the holiday season. Members of the LegalRev team have begun counteracting this problem by donating to deserving local nonprofits, forcing us to slow down and remember the important things in life. Portland’s Willamette Weekly makes this even easier by publishing their annual Give!Guide. In this post we’ll introduce just a small sampling of some of the worthy causes available.

Farmers Ending Hunger is an Oregon nonprofit committed to using their (limited) resources to combat hunger across the state. Members donate excess crops to multiple shelters and food banks, filling a huge need. Last year alone they provided 2.1 million pounds of potatoes, allowing for a 10-pound bag to be placed in 210,000 food boxes.

We’ve previously mentioned the great work being done to improve literacy among underrepresented students by Reading Results, and are pleased to see the organization included in this year’s Give!Guide. As part of SEMpdx’s featured nonprofit of the year, SEMpdx will match any member’s donation up to $5,000, so anything you give will go a long way!

Right 2 Dream Too (R2DToo) seeks to provide relief for Portland’s homeless population by establishing emergency shelters where needs arise. People who can safely sleep uninterrupted are far more likely to go on to acquire stable housing and jobs. The R2DToo team has provided 28,000 homeless community members temporary housing, all for less than $1 per person per day.

The Pixie Project is a Portland-based nonprofit focused on connecting families with rescue dogs in desperate need of love and a safe home. After the adoption process, they follow up with the families to ensure everyone is happy and healthy, going so far as to provide veterinary support for low-income adopters. This year they expect to place pets with 600 families!

And So, So Many More!

As we said, these are just a few of the nonprofits featured in this year’s Give!Guide and they, as well as all of the others, are wonderful organizations deserving of our continued support. We hope you’ll join us in putting our money where our hearts are, making the new year a little bit brighter for those in need. Happy holidays from all of us at LegalRev!

Just a reminder, our office will be closed December 26th – 30th. Read more here, and please be sure to call us ahead of time at (800) 893-2590 if you anticipate any service needs during that time.
