Earlier this month, we had the privilege of joining an amazing group of people at the 2016 SMART Gala. The SMART Gala brings together over 500 community supporters for an elegant dinner, live auction and Make A Difference Paddle Raise, all in support of SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) programs throughout Oregon.
The event was a great success, raising over $510,000 for the Portland non-profit to continue their support of Oregon Children. LegalRev was thrilled to donate $2,400, enough for 8 children to receive reading tutoring for an entire year!
What is SMART?
SMART engages community volunteers to read one-on-one with Pre K through 3rd grade children for one hour per week during the school year. Volunteers ignite a love of reading in children by modeling reading aloud, helping build literacy skills and self-confidence. Students also receive new books to take home with them each year.
