What is HTTPS Protocol?

All current websites are running on either HTTP or HTTPS protocol. Websites on HTTPS are securely encrypted and far less vulnerable to hacking. Users can feel safer submitting any personal information through your site’s forms and fields. As of now, sites running on HTTP will display an information icon that will tell visitors to be wary of information they submit when clicked on. In some cases, they may even encounter a scary warning page telling them your site isn’t secure.

Another benefit of moving your site over to HTTPS is that Google will trust it more than sites still on HTTP, which means it will likely rank higher. Google announced it would begin using HTTPS as a ranking signal back in 2014 and it has only become more important over the last few years. It is safe to say that it is only a matter of time before sites running on HTTP will be penalized by Google and suffer drops in SEO rankings. It is best to make the (easy) switch now before that inevitably happens.
